THE DAY OF THE LORD IN AMERICA

For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins.

You afflict the just and take bribes; You divert the poor from justice at the gate .

Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it is an evil time.

Seek good and not evil, That you may live; So the Lord God of hosts will be with you, As you have spoken.

Hate evil, love good; Establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord God of hosts Will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Therefore the Lord God of hosts, the Lord, says this: “There shall be wailing in all the streets, And they shall say in all the highways, Alas! Alas! They shall call the farmer to mourning, and skillful lamenters to wailing.

In all vineyards there shall be wailing, For I will pass through you,” says the Lord.

‘Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! For what good is the day of the Lord to you?

It will be darkness and not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion. And a bear met him.

Or as though he went into the house, Leaned his hand on the wall, And a serpent bit him. Is not the day of the Lord darkness not light? Is it not very dark with no brightness in it?

JESUS DID NOT DO AWAY WITH LAW HE FULFILLED IT

“Do not think that I came to destroy the law and the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

” For assuredly, I say to you till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

“Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

” For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

MATTHEW 5:17-20

PARABLE OF THE LABORER

For the Kingdom is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Now, when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into the vineyard..

and he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

And said to them, You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went.

Again he went out and about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.

And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them why have you been standing idle all day?

They said to him, because no one hired us. He said to them, You also go to into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.

So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard steward, Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.

And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.

But when those came that were hired first, they thought that they would receive more; and likewise received each a denarius.

And when they received it, they murmured against the landowner, saying, these last men only worked one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and labored in the heat ALL day.

But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I am doing you no wrong, Did you not agree with me for a denarius?

Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give this last man the same as to you. Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?

So the last will be first and the first last. For many are called, but few are chosen.
